This fall/winter I really started getting into self-development and small business education. So I chose 4 books to read this winter that I think every parent should read!
As a wife of an oilfielder and a mom of 4 with a small hand-made, product-based business AND a full-time blog, things can get overwhelming real fast.
Also Read: How to Read 3 Books A Month, fast and cheap.
If you have a lot on your plate like I do, I encourage you to look over some of the books below that I am reading.
I have spent extensive research on finding the best books to fit my current needs.
It is so hard to stay on the right foot and keep trucking along some days when life keeps throwing you curve balls if you don’t have your ducks already in a row.
Believe me when I tell you I did not have my ducks in a row and knowing this is what sent me on my adventure to find the experts who do.
The books below are the lifeline that I use for my everyday life. I don’t normally read just one book at a time. And right now I am NOT currently into fiction/novels. I tend to read 3 sometimes 4 books at the same time.
Over the last 3-4 months, these are the books that have been on my bookshelf that have been guiding me in the right direction.
For Goal Setting
The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran [amazon]
I am so excited to read this book. I have learned in the entrepreneurial world that trying to multi-task and just plummet through your days gets you absolutely nowhere. If you want to set realistic, attainable goals for yourself that you can actually accomplish while keeping your days moving towards those goals, this book will teach you exactly that.
How to live your life in 90-day spurts or 12 week years in order to turn up the pressure of the deadlines so you can get closer to that ultimate 5-year goal by measuring your progress.
Beginning in 2020 I’ll be using the 90-day plan using my bullet journal and a Trello Board to keep my business in top shape and my home life as a mom and wife right where I want it without feeling the guilt for either side.
For Getting Organized
The Joy Of Missing Out by Tonya Dalton [amazon]
Every mom with a small business needs to read this book.
I am reading this book directly to go alongside The 12 Week Year. Tonya’s book brings compassion and understanding to the mom overwhelm and teaches you in an entrepreneurial/mom style how to discover yourself, find your mission for your business and your life, while showing you how to actually manage your chaos in the home and business.
Tonya does a beautiful job with this book. She also offers a podcast episode for each chapter, helping you break it down as well as printables and organizational tools you can fully utilize to peak productivity.
She also gives you free email lessons that go along with each chapter that are accompanied by a youtube video and a podcast for each subject she goes into detail about in her book.
For Parenting
Get the Behavior You Want… Without Being the Parent You Hate! By Deborah Gilboa [amazon]
This is a BAD-A** parenting book!
I am a mom of 4, one with Autism and other special needs. My ASD child is a full-time job on his own. Deborah is an MD as a family doctor while raising 4 boys. She GETS IT!
In her book, she gets real with you and breaks it down how to teach what she calls the 3 Rs. Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. She provides real actionable steps you can take from what to say and what to do under so many different circumstances with kids of all ages and types.
Let’s face it, I will never know everything there is to know about parenting, and I will always be learning something new every day. I find it a very imperative part of parenting to actually pick up and read parenting books from authoritative authors in the field of parenting.
THIS IS A MUST READ BOOK for any parent or soon to be parent or even grandparent. It’s an easy and fast read and has helped me in so many ways already as a work at home mom.
For Finances
Broke Millennial by Erin Lowry [amazon]
I am still in the middle of reading this book. I sooo wish I had been more responsible and smarter about my money in my 20s after getting into this book. I wish so badly I had found this book early on and educated myself more on money and finances.
Reading Erin’s book has shown me the light on how much I do not know about organizing my money properly and about all things money, banks, finances, budgets, credit scores, reports, loans, credit cards, investing, retirement.
She breaks it all down for you in a very easy to read way. She teaches you exactly what you need to know, no fluff. Gives you structure and actionable steps on how to responsibly take care of your budget and your finances.
Erin pulls out the emotional connection I have with money and teaches me an understanding of money on a broader spectrum, how to manage my money, and how to be real about my money by talking about it with my husband and myself, learning how to live below my means.
This book is for beginners wanting to learn more about themselves and money together, beginners who want to educate themselves about how to use a budget, the best banks to use and why, what certain terminology means in the finance world.
Every single person needs to read this book. This is a must-read as soon as you find out this book exists book. Like read it as fast as you can so you can hurry up and know this stuff as early as you can book.
Grab it now and read it first before anything. If you are in your 30s or older and you haven’t had a good grasp on financial education, this book might make your stomach hurt at how much you didn’t know and things you did or didn’t do what feels like its almost too late.
So please don’t let another day go by that you aren’t devouring this financial education. I promise if a teenager can read it and understand it, anyone can. I
t’s not written in a form that only financial advisors can understand. It’s written for the everyday person.
These 4 books are what is on my bedside table. These books make GREAT gifts for:
Moms
Small Biz Owners
Parents to be
Stay at Home Moms and dads
Teenagers
Dads
And more!
Each book is only between $ 10-15, take a minute to pick up a few copies for yourself, friends or family to give as perfect Christmas gifts this winter.
The gift of Education is always the most valuable and the gift that keeps giving.
Tell me in the comments below the books you are reading this winter or if you have read any of these books. Share your thoughts about these books with me.
